Get a cheaper motherboard and less ram so that you can afford a GPU upgrade. Something like a r9 290.

The motherboard has no effect on actual performance. Get a cheaper one and get a better GPU. You can wait until you find someone to sell your old GPU to, then use the money left over and the money that you just made to get a much better GPU.

I would rather take a much cheaper motherboard but an i7 instead:

Or take the 6600K and get a nicer graphics card.

CPU: Intel Core i7-6700K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor  ($459.99 @ Memory Express)
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z170XP-SLI ATX LGA1151 Motherboard  ($173.98 @ Newegg Canada)
Total: $824.87
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

-snip-

The performance difference between the 6600K and the 6700K is not great enough to make up for the price difference. I'd go with the 6600K just because it's performance is only slightly worse than the 6700K's and I could use the money that I save for other things like a better CPU cooler from Noctua or something.

spend a little less on the board, and a little more on the cooler...

Noctua NH-D15. If you're doing editing then i7-6700K all the way. Or you could get a 5930K for the extra 2 cores and spend even less on a motherboard.

i've got the i7-4790k with hyper 212 evo, it's a perfect cooler, it just does not like overvolting. i think it is a super good thing to upgrade down the road when you really need that extra performance :) coolers can be replaced later, CPU and GPU is harder :)

Noctua NH-U14S, best performance/noise ratio.

http://nl.hardware.info/reviews/6162/8/29-cpu-koelers-review-getest-volgens-nieuwe-methode-testresultaten-koeling-bij-30-dba-@-10-cm

For those non-dutchies, the test is basically all fans calibrated to 30dB, and looking at the cooling it provides at that noiselevel.

dont care about noise
