I don't know if this has been asked before but

I have 1 120mm Radiator supported slot it says, and the Pre-installed fan is on it.

so this left me wondering is it really that different from mounting it onto somewhere else?

Like say a case fan slot?

It probably means that on the rear is the only spot that has the clearance to support a thick radiator.

The rear does support it as you said. You could try to mount it on the top, but the material may not be strong enough to support a top rad, or the mounting holes are wrong. You could always remove the preinstalled 120mm on the rear, or mount the rad in push/pull.
