As long as your temperatures and voltage are not high that it should be fine for a very long time and as long as your motherboard is decent. The 2500k is also know to be overclocked to even higher clock speeds up to 4.8Ghz

it wouldn't harm anything I have my 2500k @ 4.0 w/1.2v

unless you use too much voltage or it runs too hot. Motherboard needs quality VRM as well. At a modest OC like 4.2-4.0 generally you should be okay, but post your cooler and motherboard anyway.

okay my motherboard is a gigabyte ga z77x ud3h and i would be using a thermalrite silver arrow or a h100 not sure yet
