PCIe vs pci ?

Go to solution Solved by Glenwing,

well if u would look H61M-CS  vs GA-H61M-S

gigabyte one says just pci x16 thats what made me think something is different

Yeah, PCI is just PCI, it doesn't have x16, x8 etc. Only PCI Express has that. That is a PCI Express 2.0 x16 slot on that motherboard.

PCI Express 3.0 enables double bandwidth compared to 2.0 which is useful for compute tasks. Gaming isn't really affected. All PCI Express revisions and sizes are intercompatible.

PCI (non-E) is something super old and completely different which is not compatible in any way with PCI Express (PCIe).

If your 7870 fits in the slot, it's PCI Express, not PCI.
