i know the 6700k has just launched but i wanted to know what would be better?

it will be used for gaming, rendering, editing, converting dvd files and such but will the 2 extra cores be worth it?

which ever one is better will be running with:

gtx980ti

16gb ddr4

500gb ssd

6tb hdd

noctua nh d15

acers new 34" g-sync monitor

and an ax860i

i dont ever plan to run dual graphics, i dont really find it necessary

also the motherboard for the 6700k will be asus z170 deluxe and for 5820k it will be the x99 pro

only expansion cards i may add will probably ethernet to conect a server later on

To be honest, Skylake is a bit disappointing for me. Anyone feel the same? I mean, sure, DDR4, but for gaming at least, I've had no problems with computers using even DDR2.

The extra PCIe lanes are a nice boost, but you get a hefty amount of those with X99 anyway.

i am scared as to how quickly you guys replied xD well thanks guys, i was just mostly wondering if there was any major performance boost but clearly isnt worth it

yep, noop. Ever since the Core 2 Extreme, Intel's processors have inched slightly in terms of performance. Because AMD has no money to compete.

i currently am finding my system that has an 15 720 cpu non-overclosked with stock cooler, and 4gb ram with an hd7970 is perfectly fine for just gaming on almost any game, the only thing its slow at is editing

It's a really impressive chipset and I'm super excited to see what the new enthusiast platform has but honestly skylake cant compete (I mean really no four core can compete with the 5820k and we knew from intel's roadmap that is was never expected to).

Again its really the massive feature bump that is most impressive about skylake (and we will see later what their new iris pro graphics is because that shit will get crazy.)

BTW 5775C is technically the worlds best gaming cpu due to eDRAM that's why I might have been the only person in the world that was really bummed to hear the 6700k didn't have iris pro graphics even though basically everyone and their brother bitched about it on Broadwell.

There will be i7s though with iris pro and those (unless they are super locked down) basically by definition will out-preform everything else at gaming, so that's another reason to be annoyed with the 6600k and 6700k.

mostly gaming = 6700K

mostly workstation = 5820K

this should be a sticky.
