how to give a firmware update

i bought a new gpu and try to installed it. However it gave me a black screen. when i when into safe mode it says that it needed a firmware update. how do i do that

Please list the exact specs of your Computer, along with which version of Windows.

 

Also list the make and model of the GPU you own (The exact Part Number of it, preferably).

 

You can download updated firmware off the GPU manufacturers website.

Motherboard: MSI H97 PC MATE

CPU: core i5-4590

Ram: Corsair Vengance Lp (2x4gb)

SSD: Crucial Bx100 120gb ssd

HDD: Western Digital 1Tb digital blue

OS: windows 8.1 pro

 

the GPU i'm installing is a Gigabyte GTX 970 windforce OC. don't know where to find the part number.
