Hello all,

Has anyone experienced the issues with Win 10 and activation. I upgraded my Win 7 machine to Win 10 which activated without issue. I made note of the Product Key and performed a fresh install. I am now dealing with the issue that many seem to have when windows indicates the product key is blocked and cannot be activated. Now, I have contacted microsoft and they indicate waiting 24-48 hours and the OS will activate. In any event, here we are, no activation. I have tried using the different command in elevated cmd to try and force activation, but it doesn't seem to make a difference. Has anyone had any success with a different method of a getting a genuine product activated?

I did not realize Win 10 wasn't activated, and I now have almost all my software reinstalled.

Activation Error: 0xC004C003

I also input the "generic" product key.  Seems it activates for some without issue and others not so much.

Thanks

You shouldn't do a fresh install yet. You should have W7 installed, upgrade to 10 and then do a fresh install of 10 :)

My account is almost entirely dormant. Hope you all are having a grand time. Many years of fun were had here.

I did that already.  I upgraded W7 Pro to W10 Pro had W10 activated.  Once that was all in place, I did fresh install of W10 Pro.  This went flawlessly on my gaming laptop just not my gaming desktop.

Well at this point, I am stepping back through the upgrade process.  I clean installed 7 and am now upgrading back to 10.  For all intensive purposes, this should upgrade and activate properly.  Now with that said, two things come to mind.

1.  Since there is absolutely nothing installed on the fresh install of 7, I suppose I could just work off the upgrade

2. Since I always disconnect my other 5 drives when fresh installing as to not accidentally delete my data, I wonder if this is the reason for the clean install not activating.

You don't need the product key at all. The way activation works with win10 is as follows:

When you perform an in-place upgrade from a previous version of windows to win10, Microsoft stores a Hash based on your hardware configuration on their servers.

When you perform a subsequent clean install of win10, it activates automatically with no key needed as long as you haven't had any major hardware changes since you performed the upgrade (e.g. motherboard).

You don't need to enter a key at all for it to activate, and in fact the key it assigns during the upgrade is just a generic key.
