Remove Windows Defender?

MahtXL

Anyone figured it out yet, its not in uninstall programs and it seems to be tied right to the os. So im not sure how to get that crap off my system, its annoying to have my HDD and cpu spike randomly when this thing decides to scan and its even WORSE that turning off live protection does nothing it just turns itself back on eventually. REALLY MICROSOFT? give me a break. if i want it off LET ME HAVE IT OFF YOU DAFT DOLTS -_-.

Just turn it off.

"its even WORSE that turning off live protection does nothing"

Anyways. I also don't have any issues with it yet and use it since Win8. I actually like it much more than dealing with any other additional anti virus software like Avira.

Edit: You can uninstall it I think. I typed in "Windows Defender" into the search bar and it showed up the app. I right-clicked on the app. At the bottom you can see uninstall. Seems almost to easy to be true. Give it a try.

it doesnt give me problems. i just dont like it ramping up my cpu and drives when im trying to do stuff. it doesnt slow me down, but its just something i dont like or need. chrome has built in protection, and im smart enough to not download junk. its a useless feature that shouldnt have been forced or tied to the os.

you can disable any program even if it's a vital one which it is not.

For some reason it doesn't detect Facebook as malware, which is weird.  ;)

...

Wait - That means you never watch porn?

You cannot remove Microsoft Defender, if you want to disable it (I THINK, not even sure this is even true), you can replace it with another anti-virus solution. You cannot not have nothing, that is the whole point of Windows Defender/ Microsoft security essentials. A big problem in security is that you have you many Windows systems infected with virus/malware which makes the computer a zombie of sorts, and being used for DDoS attacks, delivering spam, and other malicious actions. Why? Because many people use the anti-virus that came with their system, a trial version, that has expired, and completely forgets about it, or doesn't know about free solutions and simply ignores alerts about being expired at every startup of their system.

So now they have Windows Defender, a built-in solution which allows Microsoft to kill any popular viruses and malware. While it is not as good as other solutions, it has been shown to not impact system performance, and if you leave your system idle for extended period of time, allow it to do it's maintenance cycle and won't affect you at all. It is a non-aggressive solution, non-intrusive solution.

If you want to force Windows to do it's maintenance (can take several hours the first time you do this, so leave your computer on overnight, I recommend, and be sure to disable sleep). To do this, simply type: "Action" (without quotes) in the start menu search and select "View recommended actions to keep Windows running smoothly", a panel will open. Click on "Maintenance" to expand that section, and click on 'Start maintenance' blue link
