Symmetrical dents on my CPU. is this normal?

Go to solution Solved by ProKoN,

it is fine..normal actually.

the ihs is copper (very soft metal)

the impression is left by the lga retention bracket under any normal mounting circumstance.

completely normal, nothing to worry about.

I installed my 4770K on my new Z87 board and it took some force to close the lever. after I installed it, i opened the plate to see how it was and saw the small dents. could this effect performance? my PC ran and all afterwards.

here is a picture of it.

cpu cooler on too tight?

This was before I put on the cooler. It was caused by the motherboard.

That makes it sound like a problem, you did orient the CPU the right way when installing right? None of the pins are bent right? If no to both of those then it should theoretically be fine.... The dents are on the IHS, but I've never seen a motherboard dent the IHS like that

I am good at computer

It's just the heat spreader, and even then just the bits meant to secure the CPU, so no actual harm done. I would definitely verify though that your CPU is properly mounted, and that you haven't damaged anything in the socket itself. It does take a little force to close those doors sometimes, but it shouldn't be anything more than moderate pressure. If you're really struggling to push it down then something is wrong somewhere.
