Bear in mind the Servers Linus and the team have are worth a couple of grand each, or more. Linus said one of the servers was worth $15,000 CAD alone I think.

Just the server "case" is expensive, and the rack will be too, if you wanted that. What you'd need in the server would depend what it was for.

EDIT: Also, the serves are used for super fast storage for the editing workstations, hosting the forum and probably some security and internal stuff that we don't see.

WAY more than a couple grand. The HDDs in one of the servers are worth well over 5 grand.

Linus has many servers, A 24TB SSD server for editing videos off of, a 24TB server for general storage (I think), another (again, I'm not too sure, but I think) 24TB server to do a nightly sync to, a 100TB server that archives everything they do, a surveillance server that records footage from CCTV cameras, a 72 thread rendering server with 2 Titan Xs, and I think he has an offsite backup server for his family stuff

As for building the servers for yourself, just be aware that the servers are used in an office environment, and Linus received some parts from companies wanting to help out with the new office, so in other words, they're bloody expensive to build on your own (I know that at least 3 of the servers are worth over $15k, and then there's the networking that comes in to leverage all of the power they have available)

I'll try and find all of the videos about the servers he owns:

Rendering server:

  1.
  2.
  3.

"Storinator"

  1.

Surveillance Server

  1.

SSD Server

Early plans for servers + info on them

Offsite backup server (from 2012 and probably not part of the office servers)

There's also the new office vlogs (particularly the last ones have some things about the setup)

Hopefully I haven't missed too many, and that I haven't made too many mistakes  :)

Specs: CPU: AMD FX 6300 Motherboard: Gigabyte 970A DS3P RAM: HyperX Fury 16GB 1866MHz GPU: MSI R9 270 OC edition Case: Sharkoon VS3-S SSD: Samsung 840 EVO 120GB HDD: 1TB Caviar Blue PSU: Corsair CX500W

*If I say something that seems offensive, please don't take it seriously, it was most likely meant as a joke/sarcastically*
