Hard Drive

So I just built my first computer. It has a hd and an ssd. However when i go onto my profile, and then on computer, I can't see my hard drive. I checked to see if the sata data and sata power cables were connected properly and they were.

it probably was not formated and initiated. you should do so when installing windows but never mind you can do it later on as well.

do a right click on "computer" -> "manage" -> "storage" -> "disk management".

there should be an unused or rather free volume. create a new partition on it (right click "new ...") and format it. it should show up in "computer" soon after that.

 

if it isnt shown under "disk management" check if the drive is detected in the BIOS and if the SATA port is enabled.

if it still doesnt detect after that try a different sata port, if it detects then it could be a defective sata port

 

if it still doesnt detect in a different sata port it could be a dead hdd too( right out of the box )

Maybe the hdd is dead,happened to me with a brand new one.Try changing the sata port

You need to go into the disk management page (you can just search in your start menu or something) on the disk management you should be able to see the drive, right click and assign the drive a letter like D.

 

One more thing I recommend doing is on the hdd make folders for the download, documents, pictures, videos, music and then in windows explorer right click on those folders on the side bar and go to properties and change the locations of those folders to the ones on the hdd, that way it all saves to the hdd and not the ssd
