Is RCA to 1/4" cable balanced or is RCA to RCA cable balanced? Ik that RCA can never be balanced but what if the other end is 1/4"(connecting to the speaker) would it be balanced? The RCA would go to the DAC. I'm going to get a FiiO D3 DAC and Mackie CR4, so I'm wondering which cable I should get.

Thanks.

Neither RCA or 1/4" plugs are balanced.

Edit: MOST 1/4" plugs aren't balanced.  In order to be balanced plugs they need a ground too.  XLR is my favorite balanced plug.

Aren't TRS 1/4" cables? The back of the Mackie CR4 labeled it balanced (TRS) and when i googled search TRS it showed me 1/4" cables.

TRS 1/4" cables are, but those are much more expensive than just a 1/4" cable.  Trust me when I tell you, less than half of the 1/4" cables you'll find on Amazon or Musicians Friend are balanced cables.  Balanced cables traditionally cost about 30% more.

Cool, another person who doesn't know what they're talking about. TRS is balanced mono or unbalanced stereo. TS is unbalanced mono.

I don't understand the statement. TRS can be used as an unbalanced or balanced connection depending on how many channels it is transmitting. The wiring is identical, though. A TRS that cannot be used as a balanced cable is not TRS. Of course, for headphones a 4-pole connection is required.
