Will gtx 980 ti in sli bottleneck an i7 4790K?

MrMarcus

I have heard that the i7-4790K is more than enough to run sli 980 ti's. I'm just looking for a bit of community confirmation before I spend the extra 650. I've seen the benchmarks and the scaling seems to be pretty damn good, almost doubling with the most demanding games, obviously a bit less for less demanding games. The single 980 ti is great for 4K, I can get 40 to 50 fps with very little sacrifice on Witcher 3. But, i really want to push that 60 fps mark. And my thinking is that next gen games will only get more demanding. So, if I can't push 60 fps on games like Witcher 3, even with lowering settings, then that 60 fps mark will only get further away progressing into 2016. I don't care about absolutely max settings, like AA, but I would like to max out most everything else and still get those 60 frames. So, my question is twofold 1) Will the sli 980 ti bottleneck an i7 4790K? and 2) How much more demanding can we expect games to get in the next 2 to 3 years? This is a new build that I set up last month, and I'd like to get an idea for how long it will alst me.

the witcher is just a poor example of a game that runs well. A single 980ti maxes out every game i own at 4k with no sacrifice other than no AA, and no advanced graphics on GTA V.

Gaming PC: • AMD Ryzen 7 3900x • 16gb Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 3200mhz • Founders Edition 2080ti • 2x Crucial 1tb nvme ssd • NZXT H1• Logitech G915TKL • Logitech G Pro • Asus ROG XG32VQ • SteelSeries Arctis Pro Wireless

Laptop: MacBook Pro M1 512gb

Hi there!

I have 2x 980ti Hybrids with a 4790k to boot.

The performance is excellent. The lowest I have managed to go at 1440p is around 55 with everything in the Witcher 3 completely maxed (hair works included).

GTA V runs great in terms of frames but I can't give you a lot of details because my game inconspicuously crashes, so I haven't given it much time.

Most games utilize my 144hz, if not at least hitting 75-100 FPS, which is where i start to have a harder time noticing any more.

Its an excellent setup, and hasn't disappointed me a bit.

Also for clarity I have my CPU at 4.5 ghz and my GPUs at +250mhz, temps are low of course but it is all AIO water cooled, and you may not be going with any of those options.

EDIT: Auto correct rekt me, fixed.
