Long-range HDMI

I was thinking of buying a 20 foot HDMI cable to run from my room to the front room TV, so if my parents ever wanted to watch a movie or something if its not on demand/ we don't wanna rent it.  

 

I also have a blu-ray ODD I can put in my new case so that we could watch those as well.

 

I read a few articles about long-range HDMI and they say up to around 40-50 feet you're good, but I just wanted opinions from people on the forums before I buy something like that.

 

I figured spending the 15$ on the cord was easier than moving my 60 pound computer and trying to figure out space to plug it in near the TV, I have carpet floors and 4 cats so I didn't want dust galore filling up my filters so I don't want it on the floor there.  The cord is so much more convenient.

 

 

 

If you have prior experience with really long HDMI cables/ other cables, lemme know what you think about them.  Thanks!

You'll be fine for that length. HDMI usually only begins to degrade after about 10-20 metres, which is why cables of that length often include a repeater and are uni-directional. Beyond that, HDMI over ethernet is preferred because there is no signal degradation using ethernet cable and it is cheaper and easier to run ethernet cable than HDMI.

20 feet HDMI cable should be totally fine. As fozbear said, it's only after 10+ meters that you'll need an "Active" HDMI cable.

They are used for long distance HDMI runs because ethernet cable is cheap and easy to permanently install and suffers no signal degradation. I've installed them before in dedicated home theatre rooms, auditoriums, assembly halls, ect where the distance from the source to the projector can be 50+ metres.
