So yesterday i asked a question about my selected psu and one guy said that they are known to start fires and some other scary shit, is that true? Can Corsair VS 550W ATX catch on fire?

any psu from corsair and other top notch manufacturers wont really start fires and arent known for it, only an idiot who would try and draw more out of a psu then its capable doing ( like knowing ur psu is 400watt and draw 500-600 out of it ) then u can get issues yeh

Can power supplies start fires? Of course, in fact I was looking for parts tonight and found one of my PSU's that had "burned". Will the Corsair VS 'whatever' catch on fire? I doubt it, Corsair doesn't make crap(at least at the time of typing this). Unless you are drawing too much power from it(like having a PSU too small for the build), you shouldn't experience any problems.

As long as you are not pulling more than it can handle or keeping at constant 530-600W load it will be fine.

That guy also mentioned about how cheap the components of corsair are :D

I feel I should mentioned I pointed I out that It could start a fire IF you overclock a CPU and GPU on it that already draw around 400-450W.

Yes they can... If the conditions are  right... any PSU can cause fires...

But usually better quality units have an overload of 100W or more

Can they start fires? Yes

Will your house burn down? No. The fire is more of a tiny explosion and unless your PSU or Case is made of flammable material, there no real life danger.

Lets say it does brake and gets all smoky, will it damage other pc parts?

Yeah, there's a chance it could do that.

Lesson? Don't buy Corsair VS and CX - CS and above only.
And don't OC on a crappy PSU :P

Stop scaring me :D

Either don't OC and get a lot of headroom or get a good quality unit from a better place - SeaSonic, XFX or EVGA.

Don't overclock on a "H" board with a VS PSU ._. You are GUARANTEED to fry the motherboard and likely will be getting close with the PSU.

but if i'll get a better PSU there should be no prob with overclocking?

"Z" boards are for overclocking because they have a beefier power delivery. If you try to OC on a "H" board you will surely fry the VRMs and it will not work anymore.
