FreeNas Speed?

I installed freenas 8 on to an old computer of mine, and it works great. The only problem is that it is very slow. I tested it by uploading a 1gb file, and it took over ten minutes. Is there and reason that this is happening?

What form of data transfer? What is the RPM? Specs? Internet speed? I need to know this man :P

It is an older system. 2 drives, low rpm most likely, and there not sata. I believe it has a intel e3200 and a asus gt520. Also, is there anyway I can use freenas or any other program to locally store data using a direct connection?

I believe there might be a way with USBs on NAS systems. However through PC connections might be harder to find. Try checking your connections and see if the router might have a problem. Set the NAS system as top priority. That's all i can say for now.

Things that might slow the transfer down:

The CPU in the computer.

The network (if you're running over wireless then that slows it down, if you're not using Gigabit then that's a bottleneck as well).

The HDD (in both the computer you are transferring from, and the computer you are transferring to).

The RAID controller (if you are using RAID).

ATA(IDE) connection has a 150mbps limit (same as SATA1), though the drives perform quite slower, ive tested mine and both were about 20mbps so if you are saying you have old drives that could be your problem.

I assume you mean 20MBps, and not 20mbps. If that's what you meant then the network interface would bottleneck him even more, because FastEthernet tops out at ~10MBps with overhead taken into consideration.

It may be something to do with the controller in the computers. Whether they be wireless or wired. If it is wired then what speed are you running at because anything less than gigabit will cause things to bottleneck and be slow. Also what are the speeds of the drives.
