HELP! CPU PCI-E Express Lanes and their effect on two-way SLI

Go to solution Solved by Glenwing,

Don't worry about it.

Your GPUs will run in x8/x8 mode, which is still far from affecting performance.

Hey everyone,

I kinda got stuck in choosing parts for my new rig,  so if my CPU supports only 16 PCI-E lanes, how will it affect the performance of two gtx 970s SLI?  Is it still worth getting two of those.  (Aiming for 1080p)

Thanks to everyone in advance)

a single 970 is fine for 1080p

It'll work nicely, no performance loss due to 8 lanes.

Though as you're asking "Is it still worth getting two of those", just get a 980 Ti instead

16 Lanes if fine for SLI you just may not be able to use other PCIe devices and if it's 1080p you don't need two 970s one is plenty enough

may not be able to use other PCIe devices*

*If they aren't controlled by chipset's lanes

PCI-e x1 slots in most cases, if not all, are driven by the chipset
