It's on secret that Microsoft and Google loves you! They love you enough to know everything you do on your fucking computer.

Anyways, what I'm trying to ask is: Do we know how much data Microsoft is allowed to gather in Windows 10? It seems that we can switch most of it off, but is there more that we don't know about?

I know there is some data collection in Windows 8 and 8.1, and that they cranked it up for Windows 10, but... What else?

This is not a "Should I upgrade" thread, more of a "What happens to me and my PC after I upgrade".

Edit: Fuck, I forgot to insert a title and they auto-filled it. Sorry for that click-baity title, I blame Linus.

Being paranoid eh? try unplugging that ethernet cable in the back of the PC. Ever since you plugged it in, everyone could harvest everything on your computer, from your pcpr0n to everything. *edit* realised it might have seemed offensive, it wasn't. Skååål ;)

I honestly think it is a joke that people care about privacy anymore - it doesn't exist on the internet anymore

Micro$oft is collecting data "to help your user experience", they won't sell your passwords, but somewhere they probably have a keylogger (I believe they did in the Technical Preview).

Google, willing to sell add companies your information about where you live, what you search for (pc's, movies whatever), where in the world you are (I was in Sweden this summer, got swedish adds the next month). It isn't really used to purposely harm anyone, but they collect about everything you are doing that is online.

We should care deeply about privacy.  People who say it doesn't matter are part of a problem that will not end well for us.  Microsoft is open about collecting pretty much everything you do, including every keystroke.  You can turn it off; or at least you can click a button that says it is off - whether that actually stops Microsoft is open for debate.

There are probably back doors programmed into it as well, but that has been the case for just about every version of windows ever.

At the end of the day, your best bet is to use Linux for every day stuff, and use Windows only for non-Linux compatible games etc.
