100% CPU usage idle

i have an old acer aspire laptop, just installed windows 7 home premium, clean with no ther programs except google chrome.

 

once booted CPU usage is at normal 0-10% at idle then without performing any tasks the CPU usage shoots up to 100% and refuses to drop...

 

im confused, anybody help??

Could just be a crappy CPU...

Tried mate, there's nothing that is blatantly using all the cpu, what could I mean its a clean install with nothing but chrome

Its an Intel Celeron, so pretty old and not very good but should still be able to perform light tasks and not fully utilise at idle

if you have just installed windows it might be windows installing the latest updates
