Drives are write protected

Go to solution Solved by Riddler356,

Try using take ownership its just a small registry change that allows you to right click on the folder and "take ownership" . It has worked for me in the past when I locked myself out of folders. You can get it here http://cdn9.howtogeek.com/wp-content/uploads/TakeOwnership.zip

it only worked for the wd drive and 840 pro, the 850 pro i finally got it to work using this method i found.

In regedit:

------------

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\policies\system

and

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\system

(NOTE: changing one usually changes the other)

KEY: EnableLUA VALUE: Disable (0)

after a reset it worked, but only the 850 which was c: drive, the rest thanks to that override i got it to work. thanks for the help.

My 850 pro, 840 pro, and WD green drives are write locked.

I upgraded to windows 10, i was able to write and had full control, i then installed office365 for free as a student, i later noticed i was unable to install steam games on any drive due to them being unwritable. i uninstalled office thinking it might help but it didn't. i then went and tried changing the security it shows i have full control (both user and administrator), i reset several times thinking a reset might help but it didn't. I do not know what to do now.

Nothing to see here, move along

forgot to mention, it is upgrade, due to if i did a clean install i would lose acess to over $3,000USD of software associated with a un-accessible account and lost serial keys.

mostly obsolete adobe, cs3 and 4, along with a few other programs like camtasia and paid versions of programs like glarys utilities. the account is inaccessible because yahoo deleted it, and adobe already told me they can't do anything about it if i don't have the original email for confirmation, and yahoo can't recover it.
