Hi,

Is windows 8.1 single language the same as Windows 8.1 with Bing?

Thanks smile.png

Windows 8.1 with Bing is just Windows 8 with all the default settings and search engines etc set to Bing.

I never understood this because isn't the default for everything already bing with the normal versions...?

When in doubt, re-format.

But is it the same?

If you are talking about the ability to change display languages, you can download language packs from MS's website: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-GB/windows/language-packs#lptabs=win8

I personally haven't heard or come across a single language edition of Windows

The noticeable difference is that it's cheaper for manufacturers to license. Most don't even bother with it because the name Bing is a massive switch off. src http://www.theverge.com/2014/5/23/5746118/microsoft-makes-windows-cheaper-for-manufacturers

Thanks :)

Windows 8.1 SL is the same as 8.1, but you can't change the system language without reinstalling.

Windows 8.1 with Bing is the same as 8.1.

Exactly, no difference for the end user. But they still use different media....

All editions of previous versions of Windows were single language, except Enterprise and Ultimate editions. Windows 8 changed this by allowing language packs to be like installed on the base edition (Core). But they added SL for OEMs, which cannot take language packs.
