yoyo, never really OC'd a GPU before but I want to give it a shot. Here are some questions I have:

- My power won't go over 110 on afterburner, is it normal?

- Does memory overclocking really make a difference?

- What is a good benchmark to stress the card? I don't want something like furmark etc, I want something less stressful and more realistic

Thanks!

The limit is set at 110 to stop people turning their GPU's into Silicon Soup. Memory overclocking makes a big difference in GPU's, unlike System memory. And for the benchmark, use Heaven.

Ok, what should I aim for on a 980Ti?

in my cards I have seen more performance from core clocks than memory clocks tho. Is it dependent on brand? like AMD or Nvidia?

incorrect, core clock is the difference, ask the elites.

as much as you can, probably around the 1450mhz mark, i think they can go a little higher.

samsung cards generally oc higher btw.

by samsung cards i mean memory.

wat

what you mean what? gpus with samsung memory generally oc more than hynix even if you dont touch the memory.

ask the real veterans, memory clock hardly improves performance, oc your gpu with just the core and then just the memory and come back with results, i win.

wat

Enlighten these guys please? Memory oc vs core clock oc, which improves performance the most.

I'm afraid you are mistaken, if this was 500 series, I would agree, I once underclocked the memory on a gtx 560 ti by 50% or so, there was no difference in FPS on crysis.

However, with the 900 series, the difference is real, test it for yourself before saying anything. because I've actually done the testing, and I know. But of course it depends on the game, res, etc.

I'm on about in general, I'm not getting into an argument, make a poll?

It's chilling at 1442, doesn't seem like it wants to budge any further. My card usually sat at 1100 when gaming, so I'll definitely take a 31% increase :D

I'm going to keep memory stock until I get a definite answer on if it matters that much (a lot of debate atm :P)

ive done a poll bro, its in the graphics section, thats still pretty sweet.

Does core clock make a difference? Yes.

Does memory clock make a difference? Yes.

I would say Core>Memory but not overclocking your memory is just throwing away free performance and alot of people understate its value.

ran a firestrike test with no core/mem OCing on my 980ti ( it boosts to 1455 with no touching the core clock) and memory is at (3506) base.

Graphics score  = 20347

overall = 16198 (pay more attention to graphics score as its not affected by a good or bad run from my cpu)

www.3dmark.com/fs/5635992

then i added +500 mhz to the memory (pretty standard most 980ti's can handle this) for 8010mhz effective mem clock speed

Graphics score = 20995

overall = 16397 (see previous overall score parenthesis)

www.3dmark.com/fs/5636067

so as you can see its a free 3% performance gain

(i can actually overclock mine more and usually adds to almost 4% performance gain)
