Hi,

When I first built my PC I got Windows 7 Professional OEM version not planning well and not knowing about restraints from buying an OEM key.

Now I'm trying to put my OS onto an SSD nuke my HDD but because I bought an OEM key I can't use the windows recovery on their website.

Is there a way to re-use my product key?

Regards

To download the Windows 7 ISO I have to input a product key, and when I do it says it's invalid because its OEM and was "pre-installed" by the manufacturer

I was able to change PC's with different hardware (on an OEM license)

I had the OS installed on the original PC, took out the drive and put it in the new PC.

Then installed drivers associated with the new motherboard, got windows to re-calculate cores, and did a few other things.

When I clicked re-activate windows it worked.

The only things that changed hardware-wise was RAM, CPU, and motherboard

Since then I've completely wiped the drive and installed a fresh OS.

I don't get it. I got the standard version of 7 and have used the key to install it on 5 different mobos/3 different cpus... The most i've had to do is click a link that "tests" the key to see if its legit and I've passed every time. 3 of those computer are running right now. I thought this was common before but now it seems like I'm just really lucky.

My posts are in a constant state of editing :)

You should have a different key, beside the one from the OEM that was pre-installed.

It's either on the outside of the device, or built-in the bios.

In any case, all you could do is simply Clone the HDD to the SSD. Windows will remain activated and you won't have to do anything else.
