Cuda + Blender

When I use Cuda cores to render my computer always crashes after a while.Why is this?And will using Cuda cores to render be faster than using cpu to render?

Maybe your PC is crashing because something is overheating when rendering? I would imagine using your GPU would be faster but that depends on what CPU and GPU you have.

My Cpu is i3 530.

My Gpu is gtx 550ti.

I tried running afterburner while rendering it was 40 - 50 degrees.

The card may not be up to the challenge that blender gives it, I remember using an older card for rendering even though it stayed well within the temperature maximum the cad would simply not do it and crash. Blender puts the absolute extreme end of loads on the card when rendering, causing it to fail and crash due to not being able to complete the process. 

 

Your best bet is to get a better card, even a gtx650 will help.

I use two gtx 590s to render in Blender and have never had an all-out system crash, and these things run hot. That said, blender itself has crashed before due to running out of vram (whopping 1.5GB per gpu).

It might be your power supply struggling to deliver power for an extended time or itself overheating since the older Fermi architecture of 500 series geforces is quite a power gusler.

Hard to say, how much ram do you have? I've had crashes in rendering before with 8 gigs and they get quite full. And your second question, cuda will improve it, defintely. Especially with the setup you said, the gpu is much more optimized for rendering in that regard. I would think about an upgrade sometime soon though.

I only have 4 gigs of ram.I don't have the money to upgrade right now though.Guess I'll have to stick to using cpu to render.
