Use AIO Display for Second Desktop

I have a Gateway ZX4970G-UW308 All-In-One PC. On said PC there is an HDMI out, where, for instance, one could connect a game console. Would it be possible to take a PC build and use the AIO's monitor in the same way? Note that there is a button to switch between devices, so that will be a non-issue. Trying to use a laptop works fine, either using the AIO display only or duplicating the display.

 

Also, would an HDMI 5-1 splitter work in such a configuration? (In order to connect other devices such as game consoles.)

 

For both questions, my initial thoughts are that there are no reasons why it shouldn't work, but I thought it best to check somewhere first. Thanks in advanced!  :)
