Ok, so my friend here just got some money for his confirmation. He just went and bought a titan x without having any knowledge about pc, and not checking any websites for help.

Warning: This is going to hurt.

This is his current specs:

Motherboard: SABERTOOTH 990FX

CPU: AMD FX-6100 with stock cooler

PSU: corsair cs750M

RAM: KINGSTON HyperX/ 8GB 1866MHz DDR3

Harddrive: 1TB

GPU: Titan X
Monitor: Asus vg248qe 144hz

He had a 2gb gtx 770 msi before the titan x

So my question is will this even work?

EDIT* He is going to use it for CS:GO and World of Warcraft. This is hurting my brain so much:(

My current system is: | CPU: i7 2600 3.40GHz | RAM: 12GB Dual Channel DDR3 1600MHZ | Motherboard: CG8350 | Storage: 931GB Seagate+Samsung 850 EVO Series 250GB | GPU: GTX 970 Gaming | PSU: G2 750 | Monitors: 2x BenQ XL2411Z

EDIT: tag me somewhere if he ends up breaking something while installing it, it'll feed my troll side SO much :P

Ouch.

It'll work, but he will have such a big bottleneck that it isn't even funny anymore

It will work but most likely the cpu will bottleneck the gpu

Any suggestions for a cpu and motherboard for this system then?

The 4690k sould be fine and perhaps the ASUS Z97-C

A 4690k with a z87 or z97 board would be the best most sensible upgrade. However If he is really flat broke and can't save an i3 will work. However I don't think anyone will recommend that with a titan x. Clearly he has money to waste if he bought that over a 980ti that will perform the same or better. So I suggest a 5820k and a cheap x99 board because clearly money can be wasted.

Okayyyyy! I smell it the CPU will bottle neck the GPU ;-; ... New mobo. New CPU. He got some amount of money for his confirmation to get a Titan X. He should have bought a new PC instead :PO.o

And... How many monitors does he plan to run with that 12GB beast?

System Specs

  • Gaming/work PC:
    • Processor: Intel Core i7 4790k  @ 4.5Ghz
    • Memory: 32GB RAM (Corsair Vengeance)

    • Motherboard: Gigabyte Gaming 5 Z97
    • Storage: 3x 1TB Samsung SSDs (Not in RAID) & 1TB WD Black HDD
    • Case: H440 Designed By Razer
