Hello, I'm trying to backup my windows 8.1 using system image before doing a clean install of 10. Is it okay to use my secondary storage device (hard drive) as an option to save it on as it currently only has certain games on there & other junk instead of a USB?

yes it is. If you are using windows to do the backup, make sure you do no move or rename the Folder "WindowsImage". I has to be on exact the same location with the same name for windows to find it, in case you want to do the restore. And you should create a bootable rescue usb-stick, to be able to restore in case everything fails :)

Only have 1 usb, but want to use it to clean install hence the reasoning behind using my secondary storage.

Odd it's 160gb system image, guess it takes the whole drive + operating system.

well then you have to ask a friend on win 8.1 to create a rescue media for you, if something goes wrong. Youll need it as bootdevice to restore your system from the image. The win 10 install stick might be able to restore from an image, but i'm not sure...
