So, I have a Biostar Tp45e Combo board, i went to update the bios and i used the biostar windows application. I got the latest bios version from their website and i went thought the update process and everything seemed to go well. To finish it needed to reboot, which was fine, but when it turned back on there was just a black screen.

So far i have tried clearing cmos both with the jumper and by taking out the 2032 battery.

If anyone can help that'd be great.

Thanks in advance, Matterlord1

The BIOS didn't update properly, or the BIOS is potentially bugged. Not much you can do, except RMA it(if you can) or get another board.

Is there anything else i can do? RMA is not really an option considering this board is as old as it is. The computer appears to start normally, to turn it off i have to hold the power button for a couple seconds.

Also in another thread on another forum this guy went to an electronics store to have them reflash the bios, could i do the same?

May I ask the reason to why you updated it in the first place?

I got a new 3tb drive which I had to format to GPT, just to make sure that the motherboard would boot from it i decided it was best to update the bios just to be sure.

What I would have done first is see if the drive would work, if nothing, then think about updating the BIOS.

In my opinion you should never update the BIOS if everything is working fine (MSI even say that), completely unnecessary

Right. You can try taking it to the store.

Possibly but they will more than likely charge you for it since it was your fault, is the board still under warranty?

You shouldn't have updated the bios through Windows. I would have updated through bios or DOS environment to be safe. The update might have messed up the bios. I would get a bios chip but not sure if the bios chip is soldered. If it is, then you would have to use a soldering iron in order to remove the chip. I think its the one beside the CMOS battery.

I contacted Biostar today, and while on thier website i found out that there is a version 6.2 and 6.1/6.0 board that have different bios, i have a 6.2 upon further inspection and i may have flashed the wrong bios.

I also found this http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=380211133886&fromMakeTrack=true

and i may buy this if getting it fixed by someone is going to cost more than $30.

In my experience I have also flashed my old laptop previously with a wrong bios. But I still managed to save it by re-flashing the bios in DOS mode and considering its an old laptop I have to use an USB external floppy drive because it a USB thumb drive simply cant do the job. As I remember there was a combination key to press and hold (fn+F2 for ACER laptops) before turning ON the computer. In order for the flashing to start.

Also clearing CMOS wont do the job. Its just for the settings.

You can still save that MOBO without removing that bios chip. Google everything you need order to re-flash that BIOS find out what hardware you need in order to flash that bios.

Goodluck!

Get a new board then.

I would start by making sure all HDD and ODD are disconnected

put your board on a testbench

try both bios chips

try using only one memory stick, try in all slots.

inspect cpu socket for bent pins

I've tried all of that, thanks for the tips though. I was highly considering getting a new board, while looking i saw that not to many boards support core 2 extremes.but anyways i just wanted to check back to see what you guys thought.

kinda sux

core2extreme is still a fairly good chip and ddr2 is relatively decent if everything was working.

if your still using ddr2, well it just might be time to upgrade, really nothing bad about ddr2 pc2-6400 performance.

I wouldn't invest anymore than 50.00 to try and get up and running, to be honest i wouldn't invest anything in such a dated platform even tho it may still perform well.

sell your core2extreme on ebay :)

I would at minimum shoot for a 2500k on a p67 chipset or higher for a very good intel budget solution.

do you have any used local sales in your area?

im assuming your using ddr2

SO, i got that new bios chip, and nothing has changed. I cant think of anything else to do. Anyone else got any ideas?

Did you try the motherboard out of the case and run your build on the motherboard box to make sure that nothing is shorting it out and causing it not to post?

New chip with the bios inside? If it doesn't have then its useless..

I did not do that, one of the standoffs is looser than the screws thats tightened into it so its gonna be a pain to take out so I'm kind of avoiding it if possible.
