My PSN Sony Wireless headset broke so now I need a new one.. My absolute limit is $300 if it's worth it but I'd obviously prefer to not spend so much.

What Console?

I'm mostly a pc gamer but would like something I could use on my ps3/ps4 and being able to use it on my phone or tablet would be a HUGE plus but not necessary.

Uses?

I need something that would be good to use for gaming like being able to hear footsteps and such.. also I NEED a decent microphone. I'm always on Skype or using in-game voice.

Wired or Wireless?

Wireless is extremely important to me but I guess it's something I could compromise for a good deal. I had my eyes on the Steelseries H Wireless for awhile.. it's perfect except the cost and just awful microphone quality.

Open or Closed Back?

I also will be using this in the same room as my partner so I'd like something "closed-back"? I think that's what it's called.. so anyone else in the room cannot hear what I'm doing.

I strongly appreciate any suggestions/recommendations!!!

I use Plantronics RIG Surround's and they are amazing

Sound great (to me) mic is really clear they work on anything with a 3.5mm headphone jack but if you want surround sound you use usb

and the AMP is really cool because you can have it plugged in to your pc via usb and then there is another cable going off to another 3.5mm headphone jack which you can plug a phone, tablet, laptop etc. into :D and you can control master volume and then the "other device" volume separately aswell as the game volume separately too :P

My PC Specs: CPU: Core i5 4590 @ stock speeds, GPU: RX 480 8GB, RAM: 16GB DDR3 @1600mhz

Case: Zalman ZM-T4,Motherboard: GigaByte GA-H81M-S2H LGA 1150, HDD/SSD: 2TB Seagate Expansion drive, 1TB Samsung Portable HDD, 160gb Intel SSD, PSU: 550w corsair cxm

Several people post about headsets on this forum because headsets are peripherals, bro.

I can promise you that the people of the audio subforum will be able to guide you better. If it has a speaker or microphone then it's something that most people in this subforum wouldn't understand. A peripheral to me (at least in the desktop PC sense) is something you directly touch with your hands to operate the PC. A headset produces audio and a certain sound signature is needed from what you want. I highly suggest starting a topic there.

From what little I know about audio I would suggest open headphones and attaching a mic.

Thank you, I will try posting to the audio subforum to see what they suggest.

My advice? Avoid "Gaming Headsets". They are generally overpriced and have poor audio quality for what you pay.

Consider getting a headphone recommendation from the audio subforum and attach either a BoomPro or a ModMic to it.

Its a bit expensive but as long as your headset has a compatible removable cable, the BoomPro really helps reduce cable mess compared to the MidMic version.
