Now I know before I continue on, AMD CPUs are weaker (I know something like i7 970 would perform better than the CPU I'm considering but that's not the point because once the time has come this build will be used for what I had intended it for but by doing the better PC first I don't have the option of easily getting on a platform that has been around for quite sometime now. (Vishera/990FX)).

Also I know the GPU will be more than what the server would ever need to do but that's because it would be an interim system until I could afford a better system and Skylake-E and Pascal or Arctic Islands should be out by the time I actually build the system I was going to build sooner.

I won't have too many games to start with and I can start off with a couple older games or less demanding games that I wanted to buy anyways and maybe a couple other newer games.

I can get around the need to buy Windows because I have an HDD with a legit copy of W7 that I'm fairly sure isn't tied down to the Mobo/CPU since I pulled it from another laptop prior and used it in another with no issue. Though my primary goal with the system is to not need Windows on it since it'll be running Ubuntu Server and Elementary (Elementary is so that I can download and upload things with out having to occupy a system with that task) I may also occasionally fold with the system (again I know it's not an ideal system to fold with but I'm fairly sure it's better than an A8 4500M/A10 5750M or i5 2430M or A8 6410.)

As for the 4th drive I'll just find some way to hold that in place.

An i5 4460 paired with h97 mobo will outperform the fx6300 by far

But if you want 6 cores, keep in mind that they are 6 bad cores,  performing like 3

I know they are 6 crappy cores, though whether or not WoW prefers more crappier cores or fewer better cores hard to say since it benefits more from CPU rather than GPU. Though it looks like that i5 is about $100 more expensive though H97 boards might be slightly cheaper(?)

@thekeemo That too is another option... Actually an acquaintance from Middle School has some Athlon II X4 rig.

yeah a simple h97 mobo will be around 80 usd, and the cpu about 175,

Edit.

You can also choose a h81 mobo for 50-60 bucks

If I can get a H81 or H97 version of that 990FX mobo I'll be fine. I suppose technically I could go for an i3 since even that will be better (at least going based off of Passmark scores)

A file server and conduit for uploading large stuff and downloading large stuff doesn't need too much for specs though as a bit of a interim content creation and gaming build it might be beneficial to go with something in the Intel i3 or i5 line up but Photoshop CS5 on an iMac from like 2008 seemed to run fairly well I can't imagine that the Core 2 Duo would out perform that the FX 6300. Maybe Photoshop CC 2015 or later would suffer from a weaker CPU.

Here is what i would try to get

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/kX2PkL

if you already have some parts, let me know

I think I'd still prefer the Dark Rock 3, otherwise that's an option too... Also I'd prefer a Seasonic fanless PSU over the Antec PSU.

Maybe 860k and 280x/285?

Comparing the X4 860K to the FX 6300, there is about a 1,000 point difference in passmark though in single core they're about on par in passmark.

Though the benefit to the X4 860K is that it is cheaper and A88X is even cheaper. Though it seems that Micro Center doesn't carry the X4 860K and I don't really want to have to wait for the CPU+Mobo to ship if I can just get it at Micro Center.

If the FX 6300 and GTX 960 can play GTA V on Very High/Ultra settings between 30-60fps I feel like it should do in the short while that I do plan on using it as a primary computer
