Download ISO from https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/techbench

Burn it to a DVD, run setup.exe. Also, never buy an SSD smaller than 120GB.

You have to have a 4gb flash drive somewhere...just have the install go to that then install it to your c drive from off usb. The download tool will ask if you want to put the installer on a usb.

yeah but it wouldn't be free because i didn't upgrade from an excising windows

Don't quote me on this, but I believe when you register for the update in windows 8, it signs your hardware, and when you clean install you can still activate windows. If somebody else wants to chime in to confirm this, but I'm pretty sure it works.

I installed from usb fine from usb while I was on 7. The tool only has to verify you have real windows licence to my understanding.

I can confirm this does work. I have a laptop with a 32gb ssd and a 500gb hdd. I clean installed windows 8 oem on my laptops ssd (it takes the key from the bios), updated to windows 8.1, then downloaded windows 10 home and put it on a usb stick and fresh installed in onto my laptops ssd where the other windows versions were. Worked and activated like a charm.

so, once i run the file from that website and put it on usb it will store this product key and put it on the usb along with the windows 10 install, so i can wipe my windows 8 and clean install 10?

No, you have to update your windows 8 to 8.1 first, then you can use the tool to download windows 10 iso, extract it onto a usb drive, then fresh install. Write down your key just encase.

Unfortunately the "clean install" option does not format your drive. It's a pain in the ass if you want to format because you have to reinstall 7 or 8 and format during install then upgrade to 10. Pretty damn stupid but clean install on wipes windows files, not everything on the drive. It will still even keep lots of the files in window.old

And write down your product key fo sho.

haha it's all good, just remember to disable hibernation and clean up/delete old windows files using windows disk cleanup once you install windows 10 to free up GB's of your (our) small ssd.
