My First Build!

Go to solution Solved by Untouchable,

Unfortunately, when I checked my sites stocks they only have Asus strix, sapphire and power colour cards, so which would you choose out of these?

Likely the Sapphire card.

Hello, I'm here to ask if these components will be happy to work with each other, I've selected them from my preferred Malaysian supplier so keep in mind I might not have your suggested components.

Here's the list:

CPU - i5 4690 (4 CORE/4 THREADS/3.9 GHZ)

MOBO - ASROCK Z97 Fatal!ty KILLER (ATX / M.2 / 4xDDR3 / 6x Sata3)

RAM - Avexir Core Red 2x4GB DDR3 1600mhz (CL9)

GPU - ASUS GTX 960 Strix 4GB DDR5 128Bit

PSU - Seasonic M12II-620 EVO (80+ Bronze/ Full Modular/ 5 Years Warranty)

Cooler - Coolermaster Hyper T4 (152.3MM) [Not sure about this one]

Chassis - Bitfenix Shadow Window

HDD - WD 1TB Caviar Blue

Monitor - BENQ 24" RL2455HM

Peripherals - CM Storm Octane (KB & Mouse)

OS - Windows 7 Pro 64 Bit OEM

ODD - ASUS External SDRW08D3SU

There it is, I have a limited budget of 4800 ~ 4900 (GBP 803 ~ 820) (USD 1255 ~ 1281)

Thanks for you time guys!

In terms of parts, it looks good! In terms of price though, I'd like to see the price of each part so I'll have a better idea

yes, that will work fine each other

for cooler i think it's fine, because you can't overclock the processor

psu watt is over but you have  headroom

because you are in malaysia, always check your local price, rather than newegg, amazon or other america or europe online sites

R9 380 would be a much better option for the graphics card.

Do you suggest the reference or a certain company's version

MSI makes a great one, Sapphire Nitro series is also good, but not great. XFX if you can't find the other 2, but i don't recommend them as a first choice.

that's right 380 perform better, but need more power than 960

difference performance 1-5 fps, depends on what game and setting

Since you said I have headway, does that mean I can power this card?

  • get a 4690k if you have a zboard so you can overclock it
  • get faster ram at like 2400 mhz if it's around the same price
  • get a 380 over the 960 with 4gb of vram
  • seasonic psu's are great
  • you will need a stronger cpu cooler for an overclocked i5. h60 or noctua nh-u14s
  • get windows 10
  • get a 1ms 144 hertz monitor

I wasn't planning on overclocking much at all

PC part picker said that a locked processor can't handle 2400mhz

I already planned for a sapphire r9 380 nitro with a few other members

I'm planning for windows 10, but my supplier doesn't sell it yet

And could you suggest a good monitor?

Thanks for all the advice man but sorry that I don't really want to overclock because these ideas are great!

if you aren't overclocking, getting a z97 board is kind of a waste of money.

you could go with a gigabyte h97-gaming 3, or asrock h97 performance. both these boards are black and red and seem to be cheaper than the z97 you listed

Thanks so much for the help!

2400 mhz is the xmp profile of the ram. it's the overclocked frequency. that's how they advertise it. you may have to increase the dram voltage to make it work @ 2400 otherwise it'll just downclock to 1600 mhz
