I have tried the media creation tool twice and a usb. None of them worked. They start and reboot, then black screen and I have to resit the memory. Then it boots back to windows 8.1 and a error. I dont know if its my pc or not. I have a amd fx 6300, asus sabertooth 990 fx gen 2, and evga gtx 980 in sli. Im going to upgrade to skylake when its comes out.

DELETE all contents from C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download and then after that run this in a admin window for CMD with Windows Update open. wuauclt.exe /updatenow

download the iso

burn it to a usb or dvd and upgrade from there

 

once you do the upgrade...I do suggest doing a clean install of it
