I currently have a 760 and want to upgrade so i can games at higher settings i can currently play most games at medium-high in 1080p. So which would be more worth it. Both will probably bottleneck with my current fx-6300 and ill just deal with it until i get either an 8 series amd or a new i7 and corresponding mobo

At this point the 390 beats out the 970 so the 390x will be more than enough but as you said before there will be a bottleneck for sure, I was borrowing a 980 to render some things with my fx 6300 and I also may have played games and seen bottlenecks so until the upgrade I would go for the 390x

Neither, I'd go with the R9 390, cheaper than the 390X, performs better than a 970. But if you must choose between the two, 390X all the way, it performs better than the 970 by quite a margin and has more than double the amount of usable VRAM. As for the CPU upgrade I would also go with neither, there is no single reason to pick AMD over Intel at more than 140$, the i7 is overkill unless you do rendering and video editing, go with the i5 4690K, or the i5 6600K if Skylake has been released before you upgrade, if you want to overclock or the i5 4460, or i5 6500 or whatever crap Intel will name their third best locked i5 (the third best will surely have the most bang for the buck), if you're not overclocking.
