Hey guys, I just recently build my new gaming rig and my friend would like to upgrade too. He asked me to pick the parts around the budget of €900, max €950. I've made a few solutions and would like to know what do you think (which one would you pick), or what would you change.

Solution 1:

Mobo: MSI Z87 G-45 Gaming

CPU: Intel i5 4670K

RAM: Kingston HyperX X2 Grey 2x 4GB

GPU: MSI N760 GTX Gaming

PSU: Corsair TX650M V2

HDD: WD blue 1TB

Price: €825

Solution 2:

Mobo: MSI Z87 G43

CPU: same as 1

RAM: same as 1

GPU: MSI HD7950 TF III

PSU: same as 1

HDD: same as 1

Price: €835

Solution 3:

Mobo: same as 2

CPU: same as 1,2

RAM: same as 1,2

GPU: MSI N760 GTX reference

Price: €780

As you can see there is no case in any solution. That's because I didn't choose one. It should be max €100 and I consider Fractal Define R4, Corsair Carbide 500R and 300R. Which one would be the best? If you have any other case that fits into the budget, feel free to share!

My rig: CPU: Intel core i5 4670K MoBo: MSI Z87-G45 Gaming RAM: Kingston HyperX Beast 2x4GB 1600mhz CL9 GPU: EVGA GTX780 SC ACX SSD: ADATA Premier Pro SP900 256GBHDD: Western Digital RED 2TB PSU: FSP Aurum CM 750W Case: Cooler Master HAF XM OS: Windows 8 Pro

I would go with the first choice but change out the 760 for the 7950 and get the R4 case. 7950 over the 760 because that card when overclocked beats the 760. Also the R4 is a really nice case to work with on the inside and the noise dampening material really makes the case very quiet.

CPU: Intel core i5 3570 Motherboard: Gigabyte-H77-DS3H Case: Fractal Design Define R4 Storage: Seagate Barracuda 2TB  GPU: MSI Radeon HD 7950 Twin Frozr III Cooler: CM Hyper 212 Evo RAM: Crucial Ballistix Sport 16GB  PSU: Seasonic G Series 550W

Cpu is way overkill for gaming get this intead and you'll be much hapier with the gaming performance:

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/1n6TS

The cooler is ultra silent and that with the R4 makes this a really silent build overall and great for gaming!

Also since you live in europe like me try to get a BeQuiet powersuply they are extremely reliable , silent and perform really well.

This build is around 950EUR

What you said doesn't really make sense. You implied the 6300 is more powerful than the 4670k which it isn't and that he should get the 4670k instead because the 6300 was 'too powerful'.

If you ever need help with a build, read the following before posting: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/3061-build-plan-thread-recommendations-please-read-before-posting/

how did I he said to downgrade to a 6300 to get more performance.I said why the 4670K is the recommended cpu for gaming and he said no a cpu cannot be recommended for gaming and my response many choose the 4670K as a "Gaming CPU"

I thin he just worded it badly, I think he meant to get across that the 4670k was not overkill for gaming like the other guy said it was and that it is a highly recommended cpu among gamers

If you want to save some cash and still get almoust the same gaming experiense get ivy bridge. The gaming perf of haswell is probably around of 5% better than ivy so around 1-2fps and of course you can always overclock and that means even sandy bridge isnt going to be a bottleneck with some oc done (well if you are running a multitable gpus then there is a chance but i do not recomend sli or crossfireX anyways).

The thing is, they cost about the same. Maybe a mobo would be cheaper but I doubt it. Also I would like to respond to the other guys, 1. HD7950 in solution 1 looks really good, tough that would be too expensive. Also GTX760 beats HD7950 @1080projectors in almost every game. So is there anything else about the AMD card to consider? The second thing is CPU cooler. We are OK with the reference one, since we are not going to OC anytime soon. For case we will go with Define R4. I also have a question about the PSU. I have found OCZ ZT-650W. Is it a good brand? It has 80+ Bronze and fully modular cables.

I have checked it, changed the CPU to AMD FX8320 with stock heatsink (as I said we are not going to OC anytime soon) and that GTX770 looks really nice there. But I don't know how were you going to get that SSD in there since the build without it is €946.

EDIT: now I can see that the PSU didn't count for some reason in pcpartpicker.

OK so I was out for some time now and I looked at specific componets based on SSOB's answer, here it is, let me know if you know some better solution on this base, the price is €949.

Mobo: Gigabyte 990FXA-UD3

CPU: AMD FX8320

RAM: 8GB Kingston hyperX

GPU: Gigabyte GTX770 Windforce 3X

HDD: WD Green 1TB

PSU: Enermax NAXN 82+ 650W (had this one and I was very satisfied)

Case: Fractal Define R4 windowed

We spoke and will be adding an aftermarket CPU cooler and maybe SSD in the future.

If you want change something make sure it will match the rest of the build with color/brand and also the price.

Thank you.
