Is windows 7 worth buying from /r/microsoftsoftwareswap then upgrading to windows 10? Is it possible to do it right away? I'm planning to buy the professional version since it has the same upgrade path as the ultimate,  and it's 5$ cheaper. How do i proceed in order to get my win 10 ? I have to do a fresh install or what?

If you're running win7 pro right now all you need to do is activate it with the key you get from reddit. If you have all the updates you can go ahead and manually upgrade to windows 10 or get a reservation.

Manually update with this https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

If you aren't already running win7 pro you would need to do a clean install, activate it, get all the updates, and either manually upgrade or get a reservation.

You can get a windows 7 ISO here http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-recovery

7 is amazing and the upgrade process is just 3 click of a button if you ever plan on doing so.

Win 10 is only free for 12 months,

I would buy Win10 not 7 the 5$ is not worth not being able to reinstall in a few years

No, it's free for life. If you upgrade any time within the next year you can reinstall it whenever you like.

the windows 10 is permanent. you can upgrade during this 1 year time

So what happens if you reinstall windows 7 in 3 years time because you don't have the win 10 media?

Your windows 7 key becomes a windows 10, you permanently upgrade. Your key will be invalid? The same as installing windows 8 if you have windows 7 key

but you dont have windows 10 media to install it again only the windows 7/8 media

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10ISO

Media is free. You can download the ISO from Microsoft's site. We rarely pay for installation disks in 2015, we pay for product keys.

My understanding—as someone who hasn't had the opportunity to actually try it yet—is that once you take the upgrade to Windows 10, your old Windows 7 key will activate a clean install of 10.
