I will definatley be overclocking the fx to over 4ghz so will that make a difference in bottlenecking

well if you are overclocking ,then its fine but a good motherboard for overclocking and a waterloop will not be a cheap affair and may cost the same as a i5 4440 with a b85 mobo that will outgun and out run any AMD CPU at any clock speed.

It depends on the game really. Some games are very CPU intensive, and those would be bottlenecked by an FX8350. Those that are mainly GPU bound wouldn't be.

Also, with the release of DX12 and games already starting to be designed for that, the performance of the FX-series will most likely improve in the future, as games should be able to better take advantage of multiple CPU cores. Sure, it'll probably still not be fully competitive with an i7, but it will most likely look a bit better than it does at the moment. So I would recommend that you don't worry about it for the moment. That combo should be able to play most games at 1080p or 1440p with decently high settings and smooth fps.

Yes the fx and GTX 980 will bottleneck. At 1080p the bottleneck will be slightly more noticeable then 1440p or 4k. The 390 will also bottleneck

It's heavily watercooled and overclocked to over 4ghz. Only nnow will it match a i5.

In BF4 and GTA you will notice it a tiny bit but nothing to worry about.

i will be going from an i7 4510u on a laptop with intel graphics so i think the performance boost will be quite significant :)

Some games yes and some games no, also in some games it can be terrible but others not at all so my answer is maybe.

 

I would say its safe to get it and if DX12 lives up to the hype then you can keep that FX even longer. :D
