Windows 8.1 Pro key question...

Hi All,

 

I currently have windows 8.1 pro installed on my desktop, but it has a generic key, the one you find off Microsoft's website, and I recently got a windows 8.1 pro N key from Microsoft software swap. just wondering if I put in the key would everything just work and be dandy? or would a fresh install be preferred?

Processor : i7-6700k (stock speed)

Cooler : Hyper 212X

Motherboard: MSI Krait Gaming Z170

RAM : 4x4gb LPX Memory

Boot Device : Samsung 860 EVO

GPU : ZOTAC 1070 Extreme

PSU :Antec HCG-620M

Generic key? You mean trial key? But in all, I think you can just type it in and activate.

Not sure if its a trial key since there is no expiration... not sure what its called actually

Not sure if its a trial key since there is no expiration... not sure what its called actually

It just doesn't sound like Microsoft to give out keys with unlimited use. Why would you even want or need to get real one if it works.
