Alright, So I have a problem that I cant fix.

So about two months ago I upgraded my old ass computer as some of the parts where getting on the old side. After the upgrade I had a case, motherboard, cpu and the cooler for the cpu left over as the other parts where carried over.

They where a:

Asus Xtreme Phase p6x58d-e and a I7 920

My Mother then asked me if I could get a cheap gaming computer for my little brother that loves Five Night a whatever. So I wanted to use my old parts as they still worked and it would save her money.

So I grabbed a R9 270 (was on sale for $120), 4G of DDR3 ram running at 1600 and a 1TB HDD.

I went to put windows 10 on it as a little gift and stuck the crap on a USB.

The problem I have is that i'm having one of two issues. It will give me the "reboot and select proper boot device" or wont do anything after telling me no HDD was detected. I had a feeling it might be the copy of windows 10 I had so I grabbed windows 7 but came up with the same results.

Any Ideas?

I'm afraid to swear now because the overlords might hurt me.

What usb port/version are you using. On some older motherboards booting from USB 3.0 Sticks is not supported. Use legacy 2.0 instead. In addition note that the front panel usb ports can usually not be used for booting into. Try a port at the back of the Mb. It seems to be a hardware/mb problem if you tried it with both os.

how did you put windows 10 on the usb drive?

edit: you cant just copy the files to a usb and have it work.

i use poweriso (free version) to make my bootable usbs and i only use usb 3.0 but im sure 2.0 will work, just slower. i then run the free program the is included with poweriso and with 5 clicks and about 10 min i have a usb bootable drive.

Making a USB installer for anything from Vista-10 is fairly simple. It can boot and install Windows onto a proper drive. Much faster than using a DVD.

CPU: Core i7 4970K | MOBO: Asus Z87 Pro | RAM: 32GBs of G.Skill Ares 1866 | GPU: MSI GAMING X GTX 1070 | STOR: 2 X Crucial BX100 250GB, 2 x WD Blk 1TB (mirror),WD Blk 500GB | CASE: Cooler Master HAF 932 Advanced | PSU: EVGA SUPERNOVA G2 750W | COOL: Cooler Master Hyper T4 | DISP: 21" 1080P POS | KB: MS Keyboard | MAU5: Redragon NEMEANLION | MIC: Snowball Blue | OS: Win 8.1 Pro x64, (Working on Arch for dual boot) |

thats x58 right? I7-920? that bad boy is almost 8 years old. I doubt that the mobo supports installing a OS over a usb.

Yeah tried with both back and front ports as I was thinking the usb port its self might be wrecked.

Also I know its USB 2.0 but that is all.

Make sure that the HDD is enabled/detected in the BIOS. If it isn't, then your HDD my be bad.

The HDD is able to be detected in the BIOS and on my main computer so i can only assume its not the HDD

I just used one of those ISO programs that sticks it on the USB. Used it before and the windows 10 was actually used on my main computer so it has worked.
