Thinkpad Difference

So, I'm currently looking for a 2 in 1 for college. I've narrowed my search to the thinkpad yoga 12 but I can't decide which one to get. My first choice is the 2nd Gen, but 1st Gen is available on Amazon for almost $300 cheaper.

My question to you: Is it worth spending an extra $300 to buy the newer version? This will be for taking notes and doing schoolwork for an undergrad engineering program and will need to last for the next 4 years.

Thanks in advance for the answers.

The 2nd gen is using Broadwell integrated graphics (HD5500), which is a decent bit faster...so if you may game/do anything graphically intensive, then the 2nd gen's better iGPU could prove useful. Whether or not it's worth the $300 is something only you can decide at that point.

/Broadwell CPUs are also a bit more efficient

Also, how noticiable is the difference between 720p and 1080p on a 12 inch screen?
