Cooling?

Go to solution Solved by don_svetlio,

Sorry about this but do i5 and i7 need aftermarket coolers?

The i5 4460 doesn't need one but the 4590, 4690 and etc benefit a decent bit.

i7s actually overheat on the stock cooler *cough* 4790 *cough* so they aren't worth in this case.

the i3 is honestly more than fine for your needs.

CPU: Intel Core i3-4160 Haswell Dual-Core

Motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-H97-D3H LGA 1150

Video card: MSI R9 380 GAMING 4G Radeon R9 380

RAM: HyperX Fury Black Series 8GB 240-Pin

Storage:  Western Digital Blue WD10EZEX 1TB 7200 RPM

Case: Rosewill CHALLENGER - Black Gaming ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

Power Supply: Cooler Master Elite V2 - 550W

Optical Drive: Asus DVD-RW Bulk Drive

This will hopefully be my build in a few weeks (saving up my money)

So this is my set up and i was wondering if i should get a different fan for the CPU or just get another fan for cooling, also since i'm just starting PC gaming Building any tips would be much apreciated

i3s don't need aftermarket coolers for the most part. You will be perfectly fine even if pushing it to the max.

Ok, I'd say, save up for an i5. Modern games like quad core CPUs.

No, they don't need it. It's just better to have one as the CPU will stay cooler which may extend the CPU's lifetime. You will only need an aftermarket CPU cooler if you want to overclock.

I have an i5 4590 at stock speeds with a Cooler Master Hyper 212EVO on it. Max temp was 50 degrees C, while under 100% load.

depends on the model of the i5 or i7, if its a K version which means it can overclock than yes, you can benefit from an aftermarket cooler but for non k cpus like your i3 its not really gonna give you better performance except for lower temps and less noise.
