I recently built my new gaming rig and made sure to order a motherboard that supports SLI, and I specifically ordered it that way so I can make my rig "future proof". I am going to get a second graphics card in the next few months and I was wondering if the graphics card has to be identical to the first one I bought and installed on my rig. I installed a Gigabyte GeForce GTX 970 G1 Gaming. Here's the link: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00NH5T1MS?redirect=true&ref_=ya_st_dp_summary. Thank you

no, it doesnt. so long as its the same core and the same vram amount, you can sli an itx 970 with yours if you wanted to

CPU: INTEL Core i7 4790k @ 4.7Ghz - Cooling: NZXT Kraken X61 - Mobo: Gigabyte Z97X SLI - RAM: 16GB G.Skill Ares 2400mhz - GPU: AMD Sapphire Nitro R9 Fury 4G - Case: Phanteks P350X - PSU: EVGA 750GQ - Storage: WD Black 1TB - Fans: 2x Noctua NF-P14s (Push) / 2x Corsair AF140 (Pull) / 3x Corsair AF120 (Exhaust) - Keyboard: Corsair K70 Cherry MX Red - Mouse: Razer Deathadder Chroma

Bit of an AMD fan I suppose. I don't bias my replies to anything however, I just prefer AMD and their products. Buy whatever the H*CK you want.

You dont have to SLI with the exact same card, for example, you can SLI your G1 card with an ACX card.

The nice and easy thing about the Maxwell GPU's is that most of them only come in one memory capacity, so theres not much worry in that :) Though I would still only recommend getting another G1 card in the future because it will be much more appealing.
