I have just two questions about RAM that I kind of want clarified.

Does the difference between CAS latencies (say between 9 and 10) really matter, or is it just negligible?

and

Some RAM lists compatible chipsets but are they really that specific? For example I saw a set of G.SKILL Ares that lists it's compatible chipsets at only Z87, Z77, Z68, and P67 but would the DIMMs still work in my B85 motherboard?

The key to compatibility is checking the motherboards QVL list.  And as far as CL(CAS Latency) Timings go, the lower the better.  The frequency of the RAM, although, is arguably more important than the latency/timings.

Please spend as much time writing your question, as you want me to spend responding to it.  Take some time, and explain your issue, please!

the main compatibility u should worry a/b is it DDR3... Z87, Z77, Z68, and P67 require DDR3
