Folder Empty?

Whenever I access an external storage device such as a usb or an iPhone, all I get is; "This folder is empty". Any fix for this because I've tried to access these things on my mother's laptop also and got the same thing.

If you do not have iTunes installed, the device and your computer will have failed communications. Download iTunes, and this may resolve your issue.

iStuff is really integrated with iTunes. Even to level where you can't recharge them with Linux. With Android and Windows Phone stuff, same errors tells that there's some connection issue between phone and computer.
