Internet Speed Help!

I have a 2wire router with AT&T U-verse and I am on a wireless connection. I was wondering how to get faster internet speeds on my PC? It ranges from 1.5 mbps download speed to 8.0 mbps but once it gets high it'll shoot back down very quickly. How can I make it constant? Is there a way to make my PC consume more bandwidth?
