It's a fun experience. If you do end up building one, I would suggest dual-booting. It gives more functionality and it is likely that at one point there will be something you will need to do on the rig that requires windows.

I say do it (I am) all you need is to build a gaming PC with a Gigabyte mobo and an Nvidia GPU pretty much.
