Great but take out that 960.

Get a 500W PSU

Add a 970 (Might need to save up, could wait and not get an SSD)

If you need a GPU now and cant afford a 970, get an R9 280x/ 380

which 970 would you recommend. I also already have the power supply it came in a bundle with the case

G1 Gigabyte, also ignore advice on getting the 4460 in your situation.

If you have the money, get a 4690k now as the GPU can wait, you want a solid CPU right now (not to say the 4460 isn't because its a very powerful CPU, it just makes less sense in your situation)

That looks like a fairly well though out system to me, i personally would change a few things, first off is just for visual purposes, i would change the ram for the black variant, second i would reduce the wattage or you're PSU down to around 500-600w as 750 is not required for that sort of system, and third if you can i would go for a G1 Gaming gtx 960 as it IMHO has a superior cooler, both in terms of performance and looks, just check it will fit in the case.

the 4460 wont bottleneck the 970 only if he got a 980.

it won't bottleneck any single card atm really

I didnt say it would, in fact it could run 2.

Its a better idea to get a solid, unlocked CPU now so that he does not need to worry about upgrading.

He can focus on GPU upgrades.

also what do you think of the motherboard

okay the color of the ram i can do. Though do you think it worth me upgrading to a gigabyte 970 gpu

I personally have that card (fantastic card!), although I do not know the exact performance increase you will get over the 960, for the additional cost i would say yes.

Be aware that a lot of people have been reporting coil whine on the GTX 9XX series (form most manufacturers), mine had it a bit but i burned it with furmark for a few hours and now its gone.
