Looking for a new router

Go to solution Solved by Leonard,

Thank you Leonard. My price point is around about £80 or 120 dollars.

I dont need wireless AC as i have two AP's i plan on using and i will have a 16 port switch linked to it with two NAS box's, PC ect.

It will be used heavily 24/7 as their is 4 of us in the house, playing games, Netflix, twitch.

The connection we have to the house is 80 down 20 up

I suggest you get an AC router even if you don't need it because of the ability to seamlessly serve multiple devices at the same time. I suggest the WZR1750DHPD it was $127 last week, or wsr-1166dd. They both come with DDWRT firmware pre-installed but the 1166's DDWRT version is scaled down but the1750 has a full DDWRT version which i am sure you want.

Now there are other Buffalo routers that are not AC but also have full DDWRT firmware but the dual core CPU in the newer routers makes all the difference with QoS. The Netgear routers are also good but the have a serious backdoor vulnerability with the Network USB feature called NetUSB.

Do some research on the issue if you don't know about it.

Hello Everyone :D

I'm moving house and looking to redo my network and I was wondering if anyone knew of some good routers that have VLAN, qos ect but don't cost a shed load of money.

Thanks

When asking for recommendations on items it would be helpful to give information like, what you plan to do with it, any personal preferences(which you gave) and a budget.

Any router you look at or like or whatever, make sure it can run DDWRT firmware to get the most out of your router. Features you may also want are, DNS caching, firewall scripts and advanced QoS and not just QoS(makes a big difference with routers with dual core CPUs).

I recommend you look towards Buffalo or Netgear but only specific models support DDWRT and i am not sure that they meet you budget but do some research on the two brands if you have not done so already.

A water-cooled mid-tier gaming PC.
