Hi Everyone! Quick question... do you think that 2 GTX 780's in SLI would bottleneck an i5 4670k overclocked at 4.0GHz? I'm just wondering because Fraps gives me worse FPS while recording in SLI then when SLI is disabled and Fraps uses the CPU to record so could that be because of a bottleneck? Thanks in advance for any help.

Completely depends on the game, different softwares have different levels of demand on each of your components. It's possible that SLI could be not well-supported in your particular game, which leads to performance issues. But you should use ShadowPlay to record anyway, not Fraps.

The CPU should be able to power dual 780s

also try using ShadowPlay instead of FRAPS

also did you update the GPU drivers?

Budget? Uses? Currency? Location? Operating System? Peripherals? Monitor? Use PCPartPicker wherever possible.

i notice it the most in Skyrim. Not so much in the witcher 3, but i do use Shadowplay for desktop recording because for me it washes out gameplay footage and if I try and fix it myself in Sony Vegas like with Saturation or a Color Corrector it doesn't look right. Any other fixes for that I could try? Other than that I love Shadowplay, I just hate the color difference.

I use Shadowplay to record desktop footage because it washes out gameplay footage for me. and yes I did update to the newest drivers. :)

ShadowPlay does use compression. I assume you've played with the quality options in GeForce Experience already?

yep, I have everything maxed out. I record at 1080p @ 60fps and the bitrate is set to 50.

technically that is really good recording bit rate

but a quick check around shows the video should be ok

some suggested play around with the VLC settings if you are using for playback

or Youtube compresses your video for uploading so it will turned out losing some detail due to the lossy compression and de-compression

You could try using other programs such as Dxtory or Playclaw 5 (even has a NVENC option for minimal CPU performance hit), etc.

The main problem is how the game is being grabbed, I think. Fraps and Playclaw I noticed would cause a decent hit in some games and in others it'd be fine; since I discovered why shadowplay's performance hit is almost nothing due to its capture method, I'd say that that's the most likely conclusion as to why it hurts so much.

Another method you could use is OBS multiplatform for recording. It'd be better if it had NVENC built in already, but since it doesn't (yet) you will need to use your CPU.

I have finally moved to a desktop. Also my guides are outdated as hell.

THE INFORMATION GUIDES: SLI INFORMATION || vRAM INFORMATION || MOBILE i7 CPU INFORMATION || Maybe more someday
