What is a good backplate for the gtx 970 msi preferably it cools the vram and has a red black color scheme

 

Cold Zero makes custom backplates but they are plexi so it won't exactly aid in cooling or heat dissipation:

if i get an EK backplate without the waterblock would that work 

 

They aren't designed to install without the waterblock since some of the bolts go through the PCB and into the waterblock. If you are handy you could probably source the proper length screws and try it but I can't guarantee it.

Yes with some modding

if you have a EVGA card they make backplates for each specific card

what if i use the original screws of the gpu it might not go all the way through but will it screw in part of the way and be secure enough

That really depends if it's long enough the backplate form EKWB are fairly thick making it almost 5mm, so while in theory if everything lines up it should work with proper length screws and screw head type.
